Come as Your Madness Flyer designed by Gerard Curtis Photo of Anaïs Nin & Husband at Original Come as Your Madness Party
The inspiration for this show comes from the original Come as Your Madness Masquerade Ball, attended by Anaïs Nin, Rupert Pole & Kenneth Anger. This party inspired the making of Anger’s film “The Inauguration of Pleasuredome” released in 1953. There is only one surviving photo from this party of Nin wearing a bird cage standing next to her husband, Pole.
The impetus to reimagine this party is to insert some play into what might be a daily battle. Loosening the hold that mental afflications have on the body, sense of self and activate that deep need to play. You might fear what unsettles you, where your mind drifts. Take this challenge to personify and adorn yourself in what may be withheld socially. Don’t hold what burns and harms within, PUSH IT OUT
How can you push these odd holds on the mind into costume.
